Beyond Innovation
Cambridge Judge Business School Executive Education
High-touch, 6 week courses aimed at producing a valuable takeaway asset and practice for the learner to use in their professional lives, in many cases a proposal, created as a portfolio task. The courses had a heavy emphasis on active learning and discovery, contained lots of problem or case based activities. We included videos from academics, CEOs in the Cambridge Ecosystem, and made excellent use of animations to explain complex concepts
Bionanotechnology
Cambridge Advance Online
One of the pioneer batch of courses for Cambridge Advance Online. Similar principles as for the CJBS courses. For bionanotech, we planned in an unusual element: physical experiments. As an experimental subject it made sense to include actual experiments. Taking inspiration from another university that sent out equipment for a clinical skills course at the start of the pandemic, we sent out very small packages containing vials, test tubes and some gold salt.

The responses to this were phenomenal. It took the learners away from their screens to see action happening at their own hands and said it really helped drive home the learning point in the content. Some people had their friends over to do the experiment – proof that there is fun in deep learning!
I worked with Deirdre on development of an innovative inderdisciplinary online course at Cambridge University, and with her help, in a short time, we not only designed the learning strategies and the content, but also brought complex scientific concepts closer to learners from different brackgrounds. Deirdre has a rare combination of learning design expertise and the ability to gasp complex material without loosing the underlying message and the aspect of fun and enjoyment, which needs to be a part of any learning experience.
